Today we support Kara & Keith's family as Kara has been diagnosed with infiltrating ductal carcinoma, commonly known as breast cancer. Her most recent visit with the doctor revealed that the breast cancer has metastasized to both lungs with numerous tumors, elevating it to stage 4, which is the last stage of cancer. Her tumor is a triple negative tumor, which means that it is a very aggressive tumor and that the treatments are more experimental. Right now they talk more about improving her quality of life and "stabilizing" cancer instead of curing it. The doctors let Kara know that she has youth and health on her side - there is no cancer in her liver.
Kara will be out of work for at least two years, and probably not earning her full income for much longer. While Kara is quite resourceful and a hard worker, her work now is to nurture herself and focus on healing the trauma that comes from battle with cancer. Keith is a hard-worker and a strong earner for his family, but he will be occupied with supporting Kara and caring for the children as she begins her treatment process. They will need mortgage payments, food money, medical bill money, and money for all those little things like toothpaste and soap that come up, especially when you have children.
Kara, Keith and the boys can use any help you can give right now, and their need will continue for some time as Kara goes through this ordeal.
